Service Description

The Day Skipper Theory Course is designed for those with little or no Navigational knowledge and covers working with charts, Almanacs and instruments to raise your skill level to be able to calculate and safely sail a Course to Steer, Estimated Position and to ensure there is enough water for you to float when you arrive! In addition to Chartwork and tide calculations, Safety is a vital ingredient as well as the ability to interpret the weather en route or decide on whether it is prudent to sail or not. A reasonable knowledge of the International Regulations for Prevention of Collisions at Sea (our version of the Highway Code) is also taught. The course is 5 days of classroom teaching with a small group (maximum of 4) or on a 1 – 2 – 1 basis and we will be offering it by semi- distance learning in the near future. Assumed pre-course knowledge and experience: No pre-course knowledge is assumed although some practical sail/motor experience is desirable. We recommend a practical Competent Crew course to gain this. The Essential Navigation and seamanship theory course is also a good introduction to the theoretical side of the Day Skipper course.
